One of the balun I've used is the 9:1 balun, an impedance transformer to feed a high impedance, end fed random wire antenna connected to my fishing pole. These are some schematics I've used as reference. 9:1 antenna-balun. I've used a T-200 thoroid for my 9:1 Balun, thin copper cable, and a PL coax connector. Raspebrry PI for the new year.

The 1:9 Voltage balun is designed around an FT140-43 Ferrite Toroid Core, and it is recommended to include a choking balun for an unbalanced feed line connection. Similar to the version 1 balun, this version achieves greater transformation consistency over a wider bandwidth due to the evenly spaced winding. Refer to Photo 1 for visual reference.

Step 4: Measurements. To check the transformation ratio of 1:9, the balun has been measured with a VNA. In this measurement the balun is connected to a 470 ohms resistor (the impedance of the VNA port is 50 ohms). As we can see on the picture, the balun assure a bandwidth going from 3 MHz up to 50 MHz with the respect of SWR of 2:1.

According to "Tinker John" (W5CYF), this basic 9:1 UnUn is easy to make, inexpensive, and will take only a few hours to build. Here are some of John's comments: Simple and inexpensive to build the 9:1 end fed long wire antenna is a good antenna for both portable and home use. This antenna, like all antennas, has it advantages and disadvantage.

9:1 Magnetic Longwire Balun / Unun Completed 9:1 UnUn These are sometimes known as a Magnetic Longwire Balun. Its really an impedance transformer (9:1) to feed a high impedance, end fed (unbalanced) random wire which is likely to be a few hundred ohms, and transform it into something closer to a 50Ω (unbalanced) coaxial input, hence UnUn.

This design is excellent for matching both long and short length unbalanced long wire antennas for multiband use and will allow the internal tuner of most rigs to match a single long wire antenna. This unit utilizes stacked cores for increased power handling and added inductance for the better performance on the lower frequencies.
The 91 balun Resource Detail The
This project was a commission on behalf of Frank M1CPD who required a long wire UnUn. Perhaps better known as a Magnetic Longwire Balun, it is an impedance transformer whose purpose is to feed a high impedance long wire from a 50ohm unbalanced coaxial input. With a 9:1 turns ratio, this gives approx. 450ohm output impedance for the long wire.

So, with this system, you have an excellent RF choke [the 1 to 1 current balun] which is then fed to the 9:1 transformer. On an analyser, the Ferromagnetics choke shows a nice flat response from 1.5 to 30 MHZ and only rising to 1 to 1.2 on 6m which seems to suggest a wide-banded core material. However, see my notes about operating above 30Mhz.
